How to Connect Your Live Web Stream to the ivi Virtual Encoder

Each virtual ivi Encoder outputs two definition formats of the input content. ivi supports 6 formats, the default distribution formats are SD, LD, PD, and SS as listed below:

• High Definition (HD) - for highest broadband connections (<3Mbps)
• Enhanced Definition (ED) - for high broadband connections (<1Mbps)
• Standard Definition (SD) - for broadband connections (<768kbps)
• Low Definition (LD) - for low broadband connections (<384kbps)
• Poor Definition (PD) - for poor broadband connections (<192kbps)
• SlideShow (SS) - For mobile connections (<128kbps)

The source feed quality will determine the formats distributed by ivi, an example is if the source feed is SD (640x480), then we will capture that source in SD, and distribute in the default four formats of SD, LD, PD, and SS.

To create a live web stream, if you don't already have one, you have a few options:

1. consider using an ivi Encoder
2. evaluate software to make a single live stream in any of these protocols:
   1. HTTP Streaming
   2. MMS - Microsoft Media Services
   3. RTSP - Real Time Streaming Protocol
   Note: These protocols are converted into ivi's proprietary distribution format upon capture, correcting typical buffering delays found from the above listed protocols.

To get your existing live web stream distributed into the ivi network provide ivi with the following information emailed to ops@ivi.tv:

1. url to the live stream
2. authentication (if any)
3. resolution of that stream
4. uptime of the stream

Once your stream has been evaluated for reliability, ivi will add your channel into our production environment for consumers to view or subscribe to.
