He was born on February 23, 1959, in Moscow. His very first movie role, at the age of 14, became a landmark one for the aspiring actor—in Sergei Solovyov’s movie «One Hundred Days After Childhood» Boris Tokarev played the leading role and immediately won the love of audiences and the admiration of critics. The movie tells of the pursuits of adolescence, first love, and infatuation. While vacationing at a pioneer camp, Mitya Lopukhin (the protagonist of the movie) falls in love with Lena Yergolina, but her eyes are set on someone else entirely, while her friend, in turn, dreams of him. All the main events in the movie unfold around this multifaceted love triangle.

According to the movie’s director, Sergei Solovyov, the movie is not so much about love as it is about spiritual searching, moral upbringing, and the sense of uncertainty that develops during adolescence.

The movie received numerous awards at various film festivals in Berlin, the Italian city of Avellino, and Belgrade.

Following his striking debut, Boris Tokarev appeared actively in movies until the early 1990s. However, the only movie worthy of attention was «The Days of Surgeon Mishkin», in which he played the son of the main character. Throughout the rest of his career, Boris Tokarev appeared exclusively in episodic roles, devoting much attention to dubbing and directing the dubbing of foreign movies.

After a long break, Tokarev returned to major cinema as an actor only in 2006, playing an adoptive father in one of the episodes of the multi-episode series «Airport-2», and some time later took part in the movie «Criminal Video», in the role of the head of security for the main character.
