The extreme icy route, more than 5,500 kilometers long, begins in the north of the continent (Novolazarevskaya Station), then leads south to the Pole of Inaccessibility, followed by the South Pole and the Pole of Cold. The final spot on the route is Progress Station in the east. Thus, the group visited the 4,000-meter-high “ice cap,” the point in Antarctica farthest from all coasts, and the spot where a record low temperature was recorded (minus 89.2 °C). The travelers managed to visit the American Amundsen–Scott Station and celebrate the New Year with Russian polar explorers at the famous Vostok Station.
