Major Darina Petrovich is a respected police officer who investigates more crimes than her fellow officers. She is raising two children with her husband Dima, but one day she hurts him by suspecting him of infidelity, and he leaves. Darina returns to her mother in her hometown of Novomoskovsk, transfers to the local police department, and tries to start life with a clean slate. At first, her new colleagues are hostile toward her appointment as well, and Darina has to make a great effort to turn her subordinates into a real team. She finds the breakdown of her relationship with her husband difficult to cope with, but an old love unexpectedly returns to her life.
