Late 1880s, the small town of Zatonsk. Among all the local young ladies, 19-year-old Anna Mironova, the daughter of a lawyer, stands out in particular. She is freedom-loving, curious, energetic, dislikes elaborate dresses and social conversations, and in her mindset and behavior is far ahead of her time. But Anna’s truly incredible trait is her ability to communicate with spirits. She discovered it in childhood, and now it is time to learn how to use her gift. Metropolitan detective Yakov Shtolman arrives in Zatonsk, where he is to investigate the most intricate, dark, and even dangerous secrets of his eventful career. Anna does not immediately find common ground with him, but their shared adventures with supernatural elements bring these very different characters closer together.
