The events unfold in the autumn of 1941 in a small provincial town on the edge of civilization. The war has been going on for only a few months, and virtually all Soviet citizens do not take it seriously, assuming that it is about to end. But the government, naturally, has different information, so the country is making massive preparations for a prolonged confrontation. All production, machine-building facilities, as well as any objects that may be regarded as the country’s cultural heritage, are being urgently relocated to the rear.
Then, in this town, a small church museum is discovered, containing, among other things, a very important and valuable exhibit. The dangerous mission of saving the exhibit falls on the fragile shoulders of a young girl named Asya. There is nowhere to wait for help from, and she sets off on a dangerous journey, risking her life. On the road, Asya meets a strange stranger who offers his help. Out of desperation, the girl agrees.
