Suddenly, a terrible event bursts into Valeria’s happy life—she learns that Mikhail has a 15-year-old daughter and, essentially, “another family” in a distant provincial town. From time to time, he visits his daughter Lena and her mother Antonina. But it never occurs to Valeria that Mikhail himself has become a victim of deception by Antonina, who wants to build her own happiness as a woman by destroying someone else’s family.
Valeria packs her bags and prepares to leave her husband when more news arrives—Antonina has died in a car accident, and Mikhail must now raise Lena. Valeria finds the courage not only to stay with her husband, but also to welcome his daughter into their home. But Lena herself does not want to live with her stepmother and considers her responsible for her mother’s death.
