Andrei Malyukov, a master of the genre of military-patriotic action films (“Spetsnaz,” “Saboteur,” “We Are from the Future”), takes viewers to the hottest spots in the Caucasus in the gripping miniseries “Storm Gates.” The screenplay is based on Alexander Tamonikov’s novel “The Company Goes to Heaven,” about the heroism of soldiers who went through the grinding mill of the Chechen war. Or tragically did not make it through. Actors Mikhail Porechenkov, Anatoly Pashinín, Andrei Krasko, Mikhail Efremov, and many others paid tribute to the defenders of the Fatherland. Senior Lieutenant Alexander Doronin, serving on the Caucasian border, receives an order to defend the “Storm Gates” pass. The command assures him that there is no need to fear a major attack: the militants will not risk making a breakthrough due to the difficult terrain. But the high-ranking officers are withholding much. The company led by the strict and responsible Doronin is joined by the quick-witted Major Valery Yegorov, who has suffered a family tragedy. He cooperates with Murad “Shah,” a Chechen militant defector who also lost his family at the hands of terrorists. Along with experienced fighters, very young recruits arrive at the pass as well—Konstantin Vetrov from “golden youth” circles and Nikolai Gorshkov from the rural hinterland. Their small company is caught in a vise by powerful militant forces.
