Ivan Potapov, a former speedway champion, makes a living as a private driver. An injury sustained on the racetrack prevented him from continuing his sports career. His family fell apart because of drunken brawls, casual women, and unstable income. His son now lives with his mother and stepfather. Ivan realizes that he is a middle-aged man drinking himself into oblivion, with no goals or plans for the future. Yet despite his personal problems, he is ready to help any stranger he encounters along the way. That is precisely what Ivan does throughout eight episodes. His clients include: a dying old man, a millionaire deceived by his wife, a rabbi freezing on the way from the airport, an Egyptian conductor poisoned with clonidine, a young call girl, and more, more, more... Ivan patiently looks after each of these «lost souls» at his own expense. The weapon that helps him get out of unimaginable situations is his invincible self-irony. And then there is his new friend—a corrupt but humorous and kind-hearted police officer.
