During the Siege of Leningrad, the only link between the starving city and the rest of the country is the «Road of Life» across Lake Ladoga. Soviet counterintelligence learns that sabotage is being prepared along the cargo route: the German command has ordered the poisoning of the food that Leningrad residents receive on ration cards. The operative behind the mission is one of the «turncoat» drivers, codenamed «Troll». Investigator Sergienko is assigned to identify and neutralize the traitor. By fate’s will, an ordinary Leningrad resident named Olga, who recently lost her son and seeks revenge against the enemy, will play an important role in the confrontation between Soviet and German agents.
