Ilya Ladynin is a gifted surgeon who earned the nickname «Lancet» for his love of the profession while still in medical school. He became a skilled doctor and built a wonderful family. His happiness is shattered in an instant: his wife dies suddenly, and his son blames his father for her death and runs away from home. Ilya decides to immerse himself in work, but failure awaits him there as well: his hands begin to tremble, causing a patient to die right on the operating table. The distraught doctor can no longer operate and decides to leave medicine.
Unexpectedly, Ladynin receives an unusual offer—to head a special hospital department that conducts internal investigations. Ilya agrees and hopes that his new position will help him uncover the reasons behind his wife’s death. Will he find those responsible?
