The plot unfolds in Moscow in 1953. Joseph Stalin dies at his Kuntsevo dacha, and his henchman Lavrentiy Beria is eager to seize power. The fate of millions of people depends on who will rule the vast Soviet Union. Can Beria be trusted? Is he capable of preventing the country from falling into yet another crisis? Colonel Kazarin is not sure. He receives information that during the leader’s final days, Beria forbade anyone from calling a doctor for him, and later even had the doctor eliminated. Beria realizes that Kazarin may discredit him in the eyes of his supporters and tries to have him killed. Kazarin’s task now is to expose Beria at any cost and hand over the incriminating evidence against him to Khrushchev.
