In an alternate Russian Empire at the end of the 19th century, descendants of Koschei the Deathless and Baba Yaga live among the people. One of them, Mitya Merkulov, does everything he can to conceal his unusual abilities. The young rake dreams of entering St. Petersburg high society and shining at balls, but his father, a police official, is exiled to a remote province.
