A two-part screen adaptation of a novella by Mikhail Bulgakov. The events unfold in the mid-1920s. A talented and experienced surgeon, Professor Preobrazhensky, decides to test one of his theories by conducting an unprecedented experiment. The essence of the experiments was that by transplanting certain vital human organs into an animal, it would be possible to accelerate the latter’s evolution. Preobrazhensky and his young assistant Bormenthal catch a stray dog named Sharik on the street and, after some time, begin the operation.
