Ksyusha, a student at a teacher-training college, falls in love with the charming Dima. Their whirlwind romance leads to an unplanned pregnancy, but Dima turns out not to be ready to become a father. At his mother’s advice, he leaves Ksyusha and moves to Moscow. After giving birth, the desperate young woman gives the baby up to an orphanage.
