Marina Romanova, head of the hospital’s surgical department, is married to anesthesiologist Vadim Belov. Their marriage appears happy, but Vadim envies her senior position and dreams of advancing his career, while Marina wants to become a mother. When the hospital gets a new chief physician, Marina’s former classmate Svetlana Akulova, Vadim betrays his wife for the sake of a high-ranking position.
