The subsequent events reveal the true nature of the outwardly prosperous and self-confident Platon and the quarrelsome Vera, and give rise to a strong mutual feeling in the characters. Then the action will develop with the speed of a mountain avalanche, adding Vera's former suitor to the plot, as well as a remote snow-covered village, where we will see Platon already in the role of a criminal.
