Early 1970s. Dangerous criminal Boris Brunov escapes from a maximum-security penal colony. A year later, a man who has been hit by a car is found on the Leningrad highway. The investigation leads the police to Brunov, but catching him proves virtually impossible. Photographer Nikolai Kosova becomes another suspect.
