Vladimir Motyl’s movie has much in common with Nekrasov’s poem “Russian Women” and Gessen’s book “In the Depths of Siberian Mines.” It tells of the uprising on Senate Square and its consequences for the failed revolutionaries—investigations, executions, exile, and the long journey of their selfless wives, who voluntarily followed their husbands into Siberian exile.
