Without departing from the common cultural tradition, monster films occupy a separate niche in our perception of the world. For the first time, such terrors symbolized the forces of nature, incomprehensible and beyond human control. As religious consciousness evolved, so did fears. Now the monsters were required so that the hero's victory in the saga as told by the skald would be more significant and weighty. In religions, horror stories have become an attribute of punishment for unrighteous living, a kind of restraining factor and a way to shake things up. But in Victorian times, Dracula and Frankenstein also entered literature - the monsters were accepted into the ranks of cultural heroes. In modern tradition, monsters are divided into several categories: natural, alien, infernal. They are all fearsome and destructive, but lately another trend has emerged—a humorous one.
