All of them wished to conquer this inaccessible world and uncover its secrets, and some had to pay for it with their lives. The Arctic expanses continue to draw people today: the Russian government considers the region promising for the development of the Russian Federation, as it contains all kinds of natural resources, including oil and gas, while scientists continue to conduct research here. The main characters of this movie are Russian researchers embarking on a risky expedition to the North Pole aboard the legendary vessel «Akademik Mstislav Keldysh» (it was its «Mir» deep-sea submersibles that were used for the underwater filming of James Cameron’s movie «Titanic»). Their expedition will last 42 days, during which the scientists will once again try to answer the question: will our planet suffer from global warming and the rapid melting of Arctic ice? During their work, they will collect samples of water, soil, and biological organisms and, of course, face numerous difficulties—from equipment breakdowns to encounters with polar bears.
