The Russian documentary project "Arctic. A Risky Expedition" includes 4 episodes, during which viewers will have the opportunity to feel as though they are on the harsh frontiers of the North Pole. The Arctic is a vast region that has drawn people to unravel its secrets since ancient times. It is impossible to overestimate the Arctic’s influence on human life. Ocean currents diverge from the northernmost point of our planet, shaping the climate across the globe, and what the Arctic was like a century ago bears little resemblance to the region’s current appearance. Nowadays, inexplicable phenomena occur here, and the world’s best climatologists and biologists are puzzling over their nature. According to scientists’ forecasts, in about 30 years, monsoon rains and tropical heat characteristic of the equatorial zone may replace the Arctic’s snow and ice. The creators of this unique documentary Series discuss why such processes are taking place in the Arctic and how great the role of humans is in these environmental changes in the region. Answers are provided by a risky expedition aboard the research vessel «Akademik Mstislav Keldysh», which became famous thanks to its involvement in James Cameron’s "Oscar-winning" "Titanic." The ship is heading to the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Kara Sea.
