The years of the Great Patriotic War, the siege of Leningrad. Captain Rassokhin commands a squadron of I-16 fighter planes, but is killed in a battle with the German invaders. Major Lunin, formerly a civil aviation pilot, is to replace him. Lunin’s partner becomes the troublemaker Kuznetsov, who was expelled from military school.
