The main character of the eight-episode series is Ivan Guchkov, a student at the Faculty of Physics and Mechanics. In 1941, he was preparing to take his spring exams, but the leadership of Soviet military intelligence decided to radically change the young man’s fate. Instead of exams, he was assigned to the United States. Soviet intelligence had received information that the Americans were developing an atomic bomb, and Ivan was sent to Nevada, to a plant producing enriched uranium. Under his cover story, he becomes Stanley Lieber, a missing Marine cadet who has miraculously turned up. Once in the States, Ivan is forced to marry Stanley’s fiancée, despite the fact that he has left his beloved girlfriend behind in the Soviet Union.
