So, imagine Tiflis at the end of the 19th century. Two matchmakers—Khanuma and Kabato—have set their sights on the same groom. A grand title is all that remains to the old Prince Vano Pantiashvili. And now, in order to pay off his debts and redeem his mortgaged property, he is looking for a wealthy bride. Khanuma intends to arrange his marriage to a not-so-young and decidedly unattractive, but very rich lady. Kabato, meanwhile, offers the respected Georgian a young and beautiful merchant’s daughter. Although the girl is in love with another man, she is unlikely to dare defy her father’s wishes, as he dreams of gaining access to high society through an advantageous marriage.
