After studying overseas, Anvar returns home to Uzbekistan to introduce his destiny—Sofia—to his family. For his mother, Oygul, a model guardian of tradition, this long-awaited occasion turns into a cultural shock: her son’s chosen one is African American. Overcome by panic and a desire to «save» her son, the woman launches a quiet but determined campaign: to find a local girl worthy of her Anvar and restore life to its usual course.
But the newlyweds are determined to be together. Their sincere love comes up against a wall of prejudice, forcing every family member to ask themselves: what matters more—love or the inviolability of age-old traditions?
