The first season of the melodramatic Series "A Short Course in a Happy Life" is an utterly sincere, at times shocking, yet always very natural portrayal of female dissatisfaction, as well as a detailed exploration of its causes and ways to resolve it. Four friends, four colleagues at a recruitment agency—Sasha, Katya, Lyuba, and Anya—search, experiment, make mistakes, become enchanted, and disappointed. Each has her own problem, her own pain, her own quirks; each feels trapped and therefore is more often forced to follow her heart, paying little heed to the arguments of reason. Sasha falls in love with her married boss, Katya learns that her quiet husband is cheating on her, Lyuba throws out her drinking husband, and Anya begins an affair with an eccentric psychotherapist. The heroines' storylines regularly converge, often in highly peculiar ways, and all their adventures unfold under the sign of despair brought on by the painful feeling of youth slipping away. The heroines urgently cope with the onslaught of newly arisen or long-accumulated problems, but no matter what pain another failed romance brings, each believes that happiness is just around the corner.
