The first season of the detective television series "Investigator Savelyev’s Cordon" tells the story of the difficult service of Colonel of Justice Savelyev. Nikolai has hundreds of successfully solved cases to his credit, but the accumulated problems in his personal life push him toward serious changes. Savelyev suddenly becomes a stranger to his grown-up son, and his wife has even left him for another man. Nikolai believes that nothing is holding him in the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation anymore, and that he can return to his hometown of Stepanovsk, where his father served as a gamekeeper. Savelyev hopes to spend some time in peace and try to decide how to live on. His superiors, represented by Colonel Kolotov, are reluctant to part with such an excellent investigator for a long time, but eventually give in; however, fate itself does not allow Savelyev to leave for his native home. Nikolai is urgently sent to Dmitrov, where a teacher at a prestigious lyceum has been murdered in her own apartment. At the crime spot, Savelyev notices a casket bearing the cross of a Knight of the Order of Malta.
