Vasily Rusakov is one of the best cadets at the Saratov Tank School. He knows that very soon a harsh life at the front awaits him, with constant dangers, trials, and losses. Vasily knows this, yet he still falls head over heels in love with Maria, a novice nurse. Chance and war separate them: Masha grows close to a distinguished pilot, while Rusakov fights side by side with fearless Natasha, a tank driver-mechanic.
