In 1930s Moscow, the mysterious Woland and his retinue appear, and the familiar order begins to collapse: officials, writers, and ordinary citizens encounter forces that bring their fears and vices to light. At the same time, the story unfolds of the Master, who has written a novel about Pontius Pilate, and Margarita, who is ready to take a desperate step for the sake of her beloved. Satire, mysticism, philosophical parable, and poignant love come together in one of the greatest novels of the 20th century.
