The naïve Belarusian woman Galina Pomazan loses her child in the early stages of pregnancy, and the would-be father leaves her without saying goodbye. But Galina has no time to mourn her personal life. The war has begun, and the Germans are relentlessly advancing on Minsk. In the fallen city, the ideologically driven and resourceful party worker Maria Arkhipova becomes actively involved; she has been tasked with organizing an underground resistance. The partisans’ boldest mission is to eliminate Gauleiter Wilhelm Kube. Maria sees Galina, who works as a servant at the occupiers’ headquarters, as the best weapon for the murder. Thus, Galina gets the opportunity to get close to the enemy, while Maria has strings she can pull to control her unwilling accomplice.
