The war Series "Hunting the Gauleiter" takes the viewer to September 1943, to Minsk under German occupation. The Series’ main character, Galina Pomazan, whose image is based on intelligence agent Yelena Mazanik, and her sister Valentina find a seriously wounded man in a Soviet uniform. Having nursed the wounded man, whose name is Yakov Kovelsky, back to health, Galina realizes that she has fallen in love with him, and that her feelings are reciprocated. Galina decides to take a job as a cleaner in a German dormitory in order to receive a good food ration and have access to medicine. Soon, however, she is transferred to a restaurant, where Wilhelm Kraube, the General Commissioner of Belarus, notices the attractive young woman. He transfers Galina to his home as a housekeeper. A parallel storyline concerns the activities of Maria Arkhipova, a military lawyer at the Supreme Court, who is tasked with assembling an underground organization from local Komsomol members and eliminating the Gauleiter—the very same Wilhelm Kraube. Soon, the paths of the two heroines cross. Upon learning that Galina works in Kraube’s house, Maria tries to force her to help eliminate the commissioner. Maria decides to use Yakov as leverage.
