In 1958, Maria Krapivina, a talented law school graduate, begins her service in the Leningrad police force. She can hardly wait to quit, suffering among unfriendly veterans—surrounded by rude detectives, the daughter of intellectual parents has a hard time. The search for a traitor within the department, an office romance, and family secrets will make Maria stay in this difficult and even dangerous job.
The traitor who must be exposed is connected to a major gang posing a serious threat. Maria is convinced that solving this case is her chance to earn respect in this position. She suspects absolutely everyone, including the head of the department, whom the girl, to make matters worse, falls in love with.
