The mischievous girl Pippi Longstocking appears in a small town. She has arrived alone, with a horse and a suitcase full of gold coins, which she generously gives away. Pippi’s mother died when the girl was still an infant, and her father, Captain Ephraim, disappeared. The arrival of this unusual young lady, who has a habit of wearing stockings of different lengths, throws the quiet little town—where nothing has happened for a thousand years—into confusion. The adults are especially displeased by the stranger’s appearance.
Pippi soon makes friends: the brother and sister Tommy and Annika, who are ready to take part in all her games. However, prim ladies led by Miss Rosenblum threaten to send Pippi to an orphanage. The girl runs away, and, losing hope of catching the disobedient child, they effectively sell her to a circus director as a gymnast and clown. Tommy and Annika must somehow save their new friend.
