Taking advantage of the unstable situation in the USSR, the CIA offers a huge monetary reward and its protection to anyone who gives them a list of Soviet spies in Western countries. The First and Second Directorates of the KGB were seriously concerned that there might be many people willing to get this money. The KGB decided to plant a fake traitor to the Motherland among the Americans, selecting an impeccable candidate from among their own employees. At the same time, none of the participants in this confrontation could have imagined what result this operation would bring.
