On the eve of Hitler’s attack on the USSR, experienced and well-trained agent Georgy Volkov is given a mission of special importance—to transport a batch of jewels under the Soviet-German trade agreement. Along with the emeralds, he must deliver a package of secret documents. War catches Volkov on the road: the Germans intercept his train, and the captain goes on the run to make it back to his own side on his own. The secret shipment carried by Volkov becomes known to the cunning and ruthless Abwehr agent Konrad von Byutsov, who begins hunting the Soviet intelligence officer. The outcome of their confrontation will determine not only their personal fates—thousands of lives are at stake.
