The burned body of a man is discovered in the Leningrad Region. Local residents, as well as Internet users, are convinced that the strange death is connected to a community of Old Believers from a nearby village who practice ritual self-immolation.
But when investigator Elena Rybkina takes on the case, she establishes beyond doubt that it was murder. Her partner on the case is Major Panov, who grew up in a family of Old Believers. They soon learn that the mysterious crime is connected to Yuri’s family past—or, more precisely, to an ancient legend about stones endowed with magical power.
