The Ukrainian melodramatic series "One’s Own, Another’s Son" illustrates the complexities of family relationships between spouses when they are separated by as many as 20 years. Anna is married to Vadim, the owner of a construction company, who is significantly older than his wife. The serious age difference affects the strength of the spouses’ bond, as they are more like father and daughter to each other than husband and wife. Anna dreams of becoming a photographer, but her husband does not support her ambitions and is generally condescending toward her. The relationship is further complicated by the presence of Vadim’s 15-year-old son, Yegor, whose mother died, leaving her husband an inconsolable widower. When Yegor returns home for the holidays, difficult days begin for Anna. Her stepson does not hide his hatred for his stepmother, considering her a gold digger. Yegor does not believe that Anna has the most sincere feelings for Vadim and declares war on her, seeking by any means to drive the woman out of the house. Naturally, Anna is deeply saddened by the attitude of the young man, who, due to his age, does not understand many things in life. When all arguments and peaceful ways of resolving the conflict with her stepson have been exhausted, Anna decides to take an extreme step, not suspecting that she is thereby setting off a chain of fateful events.
