Through the fates of the residents of the Siberian village of Zelyony Dol, the country’s history over several decades of the 20th century is shown: the final years of Tsarist Russia, the Civil War, collectivization, the German-Soviet War, and postwar reconstruction. Konstantin Zhukov and Serafima Klychkova, heirs to wealthy Siberian families, change their place of residence after the defeat of the White armies and forest rebel detachments in the Civil War, settling in a remote village with the passports of murdered settlers. They want to survive the hard times and wait for the fall of Soviet power.
Contrary to the fugitives’ expectations, the Bolsheviks transform a semi-impoverished country into a powerful industrial state, firmly standing on its feet and ready to repel foreign invaders. But an even greater surprise for them is the views of their children, who grew up in different circumstances and are becoming strangers to them.
