The movie tells the story of three London friends who decide to take a boat trip in the company of a fox terrier named Montmorency.
One day, George and Harris visit their old friend Jay to spend an evening in male company. Sitting by the fireplace and having a heart-to-heart talk, the friends unanimously decide that all illnesses come from overwork, so it is vital to get away for some rest. After discussing the possible options a little, the men settle on a boat trip up the Thames. Mishaps begin to happen to the heroes from the very moment they start preparing for the journey. First, they cannot find the right platform at the railway station, and then they have to pay a pretty penny to get to the starting point. Initially conceived as a trip without women, it later becomes excessively «feminine» when the heroes meet three female travelers just like themselves.
