Moscow, the 1970s. Talented ballerina Oksana Lepina becomes the victim of rape by Artur Nikitin, the grandson of a Politburo member. To cover up the scandal, witnesses are bribed, and the pregnant Oksana is put behind bars. The young woman dies in childbirth, giving her newborn daughter the resounding name Pavla Kirillovna in honor of her mentor, who had become like a mother to her.
Twenty years later, Pavla, raised by Oksana’s cellmate, works as a TV reporter and dreams of making a documentary movie about everything that happened to her real mother. But it will not be so easy: all those responsible for those events are now prosperous and influential people, for whom publicity could cost them their careers and reputations.
