During his journey, Alekha finds himself in a Turkish fortress. Against his will, he is forced to become a janissary.
The Sultan’s adviser, Vizier Hasan, learns of the Russian Tsar’s embassy and orders his henchmen to abduct Anna, the ambassador’s daughter, in order to bend the incorruptible Russian diplomat to his will. A detachment of Crimean Tatars hired by the vizier’s henchmen storms the ambassador’s estate, massacres its inhabitants, and takes Anna captive. The girl is brought to the sea and transported by ship to Istanbul.
Having learned of the abduction, Godunov comes to the conclusion that a spy is operating within the Tsar’s inner circle and must be neutralized.
