Lilia Loginova comes to Moscow in search of her happiness, dreaming of becoming an actress. However, everything turns out rather mundane, as often happens in real life. Lilia fails the entrance exam assignment and, as a result, does not receive a passing score. Her pride will not allow her to return home empty-handed, so the girl stays in the capital. Lilia gets a job as a waitress at a large restaurant, where she attracts the attention of her boss, the establishment’s owner, Fyodor Stoletov. The man does not want to simply admire his new employee; he begins showing her signs of attention, which his wife notices. The main character does not like this state of affairs, but she is forced to put up with it, as she needs a steady income. But one day, by pure chance, Lilia drops by her workplace at night and finds Stoletov dead.
