On the way to the registry office, Alexey witnesses a savings bank robbery and, driven by noble motives, decides to apprehend the criminal on his own. But the police who arrive at the crime scene arrest Alexey as the main suspect. Law enforcement officials «appoint» Alexey as the culprit, and he receives a prison sentence. His fiancée Anya is determined to wait for her beloved. In this difficult situation, she is supported by Sasha, who has long been hopelessly in love with her. Realizing that he does not want to ruin the young girl’s life, Alexey decides to lie to her about cheating on her. Upset, Anya soon gives in to her mother’s persuasion and accepts Sasha’s attentions.
Prison life forces the noble Alexey to mingle with real criminals, while the circumstances of life compel the hero himself to join a gang. Thus, fate places the once best friends on opposite sides of the barricades.
