Vera Filatova lived in the capital for a long time: she got married there and gave birth to a daughter. The woman never thought that her strong marriage to the man she loved would collapse in an instant because of infidelity.
But that is what happened, and the proud Vera decides to return to her hometown with her school-age daughter. Much has changed there: the old little shops are gone, and new buildings have sprung up everywhere. Vera finds a job at the local social service, where an experimental project has recently been launched. Together with a lawyer and a psychologist, the employees handle the cases of citizens who have found themselves in very difficult situations, and the new center is their last hope. Professional duty brings Vera together with Captain Zakharov, a police officer with a heightened sense of justice.
