A wonderful screen adaptation of Veniamin Kaverin’s novel. Everyone who avidly read this work in childhood should watch the six-part movie «Two Captains» online. And those who have not read the book will follow the characters’ fate with no less enjoyment.
As children, Sasha Grigoryev and his friend Petka found a bag containing letters from an unknown man, which told of a missing expedition. The children read them avidly, like a work of fiction, and memorized them by heart. Later, Sasha ends up at a Moscow boarding school, where he studies and grows up. As a teenager, he meets a beautiful girl from a rather well-off family, Katya Tatarinova. She and her mother live in the large apartment of Nikolai Antonovich—the cousin of Maria Vasilyevna’s husband. Later, Sanya learns that Katya’s mother’s husband and Katya’s father are one and the same person: the famous Captain Tatarinov, and that the letters he and his friend memorized in childhood belonged to him. It turns out that Nikolai Antonovich, the brother, was responsible for the expedition’s demise. But Grigoryev can prove this only by becoming a captain himself and following the same route as Captain Tatarinov.
