During the Great Patriotic War, Alexander Ganin worked as a correspondent on the front lines, but he cannot find his place in peacetime life. He decides to write a memoir about the war and travels to the small town of Vyborg, which was once part of Finland. His creative plans change when he witnesses the formation of the local criminal investigation department and decides to help the police with difficult cases.
