The colorful, spectacular, and one-of-a-kind semi-documentary, semi-fictional Series "The Romanovs" is devoted to the 300-year reign of the Romanov dynasty in our country, from the accession of Mikhail Fyodorovich to the tragic death of Nicholas II. The movie creators focus on the entire chronicle of Romanov rule; each episode tells the story of two monarchs, offering detailed portraits of their personalities as well as the historical events that took place in Russia. Little-known actors were cast in the leading roles, which, according to the project’s creators, makes it possible to see them as real historical figures rather than performers in makeup. "The Romanovs" covers not only the rises and falls of our rulers, portrayed as living people with natural traits and flaws. The Series’ creators embarked on a risky attempt to comprehend the mysterious essence of the Russian soul and answer the question: could our history have taken a different path had the Zemsky Sobor not chosen the young Mikhail Fyodorovich?
