The miniseries is set in Bulgaria during the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878). Erast Fandorin picks up the trail of a Turkish agent attempting to thwart the Russian advance during the siege of Plevna. The agent, known as Anvar Efendi, is a master of disguise and speaks Russian fluently.
Despite certain deviations from the novel, the screen adaptation brilliantly conveys the adventurous spirit of the detective story, while Beroev’s talented performance makes Erast Fandorin more charming than ever. Moreover, Beroev is far from the only star in the cast of «The Turkish Gambit»: Olga Krasko, Alexander Lykov, Dmitry Pevtsov, Alexander Oleshko, and many others wholeheartedly immerse themselves in their roles—all against the backdrop of military action.
