Zoya, Musya, and Gulya are the daughters of Professor Rastopchin of Moscow State University. The eldest sister, Zoya, becomes a nurse at a military hospital. She is framed and sent into exile. Only her faith in God helps her overcome the difficulties that arise along the way. Musya and her mother are taken prisoner, where the mother is shot and the daughter is sent to work in Germany. The youngest daughter, accustomed to living for the moment, desperately wants to enroll at university and become a Komsomol member. But to do so, she will have to renounce her father.
